The Gravity State Series wrapped up its final round for the year at Mount Borah, and as always, it delivered.
Saturday’s practice day brought the heat, with riders and spectators feeling the sun beat down. Sunday, race day, was much more forgiving, with cooler temperatures and a bluebird of a day, making for perfect riding weather. This does, however, make for challenging shooting conditions with harsh sunlight and deep shadows.
The tracks were dusty all weekend, adding another layer of challenge for riders finding their lines but opening up some nice opportunities for dusty shots. A splash of rain on Saturday night helped a bit.
Mount Borah has four tracks, all notoriously rocky, with technical sections that keep riders on their toes from top to bottom. Plus more hits than a Mike Tyson fight. They claimed a few. I met one young fellow nursing a broken arm.
With camping nearby, it felt more like a proper weekend away rather than just a day shooting by the track. And once the sun went down on Friday, the night sky opened right up, stars scattered thick overhead with a clear, dark sky you don’t get to see too often unless you’re away from the city lights. Saturday skies were patchy with storm clouds passing by overhead.
Once again, Mount Borah proved why it’s a fixture on the calendar. Great riding, great community, and another solid round in the books.
